Ring my BELL….

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

It is no secret that the 70′s are back and with that came the BELL BOTTOM!!!  For some it may be easy to pick up the trends with each season that passes, while others are sitting around wondering what to do with their skinnies that they are just getting used to.  While I am a huge fan of my skinny jeans with an easy pair of sandals or boots, I am definitely embracing the Bell with a chunky heel or a fun wedge!  Here are some MEADOW favorites that will not disappoint!

1.  MIH Marrakesh in any wash

Jessica Alba in MIH Marrakesh

Claudia Schiffer in MIH Marrakesh

MIH (Made in Heaven)

 2.  JBrand Lovestory

Penelope Cruz - JBrand Lovestory

Brooke Shields in JBrand Lovestory

Don’t put away your skinnies, but definitely bring back the BELL!  We have a variety of styles in stock now…if you want us to send you some BELLS give us a call or shoot us an e-mail!

Spring is in the air…..

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

What I would give to have these beautiful Cherry Blossom trees lining our streets….GORGEOUS!!!

While cherry blossoms may not be in full bloom quite yet….it is definitely beginning to look a lot like spring inside the store!  Being in retail I must admit I really do love the change of fashion seasons…even though they come months ahead of any kind of real seasonal change.  By the time Christmas comes and goes I am beyond done with fall clothing and ready to see happy colors and fun prints hanging on the racks and walking in and out of our dressing rooms.  In fact today was a great day to put my boots in the closet and break out my flops…my pale feet may not have thought the same…but I didn’t care…it was time to let these babies get some fresh air.  It was in the 70′s here in San Antonio today and tomorrow the high is 78!  Kind of ridiculous for January, but I am not complaining.  I have market trips to fill my need for freezing cold and possibly snowy weather.

The end of January is an uplifting time at MEADOW!  Our big sale has come to an end and we have brightened up our floor with vivid colors, tons of prints, shorts and dresses.

Tibi, Rebecca Taylor, Tucker, & 12th Street…..just to name a few!

Here is a sneak peak at some of the treasures we have been trying on lately……

I LOVE THIS LOOK!  Everything about it….the 12th Street Sunburst caftan…oh so chic, the layered jewels, the wavy beach hair…  This dress can take you so many places.  A night out with the girls, a fun date with your hubby or boyfriend, or dress it up with a fabulous pair of evening shoes…(I dream of LOUBOU’s), take of the long chain necklaces, tie your hair up in a pretty chignon… and wear it to a wedding.  Who wouldn’t want something this versatile in their closet?

There is sooooo much more to come.  As you have heard me say before….Spring 2011 fashion is so very me & I get excited every time a new box arrives.  Come see what we have in store for Spring!

Agate Ranch + Marfa Jewelry

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

We are hosting a trunk show with jewelry designer Kathy Bracewell tomorrow at the store and could not be more excited!  Kathy is the designer of Agate Ranch + Marfa.  Her jewelry line consists of unique and rare Marfa agate stones and she incorporates one of a kind vintage milagros’, rosary seed beads, lava, mother of pearl & turquoise into each piece.  She recently sent us a box of her necklaces and we immediately fell in love!  They are different than many agate necklaces I have seen.  She has left the natural beauty in the stones and each piece makes a bold statement!

Here’s a sneak peek….

Come by the store tomorrow to see her full collection of one of kind pieces!  Kathy will be making an appearance between 4-7 pm!  Come have a glass of wine, meet the designer, try on some rocks and get in the holiday spirit!

Hope to see you soon!

Market Travels!

Monday, September 27th, 2010
I am just returning from a loooooooong week in New York…but it was a blast!  I took Ella with me…and my mom (AKA…the Nanny :)  ) The week would have been horrible if I hadn’t been able to come home to this adorable little face every night!  She had the best time…she tried on sunglasses and hats at Barney’s, had dinner at Nello on Madison Avenue, got her picture taken with the gaurd at FAO Schwartz, strolled in central park and was truly perfect….even on the plane!  Oh the life of a 3 1/2 month old!

Ella!

Back to business…..Let me just say that Spring 2011 looks AWESOME!  I haven’t been this excited about an upcoming season for as long as I can remember.  70′s colors and prints were everywhere…oh….and hold onto your military green because it doesn’t appear as though it is going anywhere anytime soon!

Here’s a peak at a couple of our designers runway shows from Fashion week!

Rebecca Taylor Spring 2011 Runway

Alice and Olivia Spring 2011

Does anyone else love the look of the 70′s as much as I do….?

I mean….Boho Chic….please come and stay a while…a long while!  I know Boho has been gracing us with its presence for a while now, but this upcoming spring it will be here in full swing!  Every designer I carry at the store (and all of the new ones I will be getting in for spring!!!!) were 70′s inspired to some degree…whether it was in the solid color palettes they chose or their retro prints….it was everywhere.  The 70′s look can definitely make some look as if they stepped right out of the Brady Bunch, but there is another approach that can make one look like a Boho diva with effortless chic & classic style.  I feel like I touch on this subject all the time, but I can’t stress enough how I think everyone should try to achieve this look and their lives will become just that…effortlessly chic!  Add a little boho to your wardrobe  this spring and you will be pleasantly surprised!

P.S. I think I felt the first breath of Fall outside this morning…it inspired me to rock my boots to the store today…eventhough the high ended up being 82 degrees!

Happy Monday….night!

Fall 2010 TREND REPORT…..

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Ready or not….Fall is here…at least in stores that is.

It is hard to even fathom black, sweaters, boots and scarves when it is 100+ degrees outside….welcome to the fashion world!  I have always been somewhat of a buy now wear now type shopper (except at market)…but I used to always miss some of the most sought after pieces of the season by waiting until it gets cold here in TX.

Here are the must have items for every fashionistas wardrobe for Fall 2010…don’t miss out!

Leopard print was in just about every collection I saw at Fall market back in February.   From textured furs to trendy accessories (and everything else in between), leopard is a must have for Fall.  I ordered my fair share of leopard this season so you know where you can find it!

Remember, animal print can be flawlessly chic or turn you into a  fashion disaster.  Try limiting your ensemble to either one garment or a fab accessory to let out your inner animal!  Pair a leopard blouse with a clean pair of denim or a neutral pant….or throw on a scarf to jazz up your look!

Coming soon….

Leopard Scarf - By Malene Birger

The color of the season is army green!

Army green is not new this season, but it is still a must have for Fall!  This color seems to have some serious staying power in the fashion world…we have been seeing it show up on runways for several years.  A couple of good things about adding this neutral color to your wardrobe is 1) it goes with everything…black, brown, beige, and denim and 2) you can dress it up or down for the easy day to night look.  Wear it by day with your favorite boots or gladiators and throw on your bronze metallic wedges for a night on the town.  This color has been around for many seasons…if you don’t already have it, this Fall is the time to add it to your wardrobe.

LEATHER…..available in just about all items of clothing.  You will find leather pants, skirts, shorts, jackets, capes and vests.  I mean EVERYTHING leather for Fall 2010!  Of course everyone needs a staple leather jacket in their wardrobe.  My favorites from this season are Mike & Chris and Poleci….Mike and Chris has arrived, but you will have to wait until October for Poleci…think buttery soft black leather with a touch of fur!

Mike & Chris "Russell" jacket

FURRRRRR…while I realize how controversial fur can be in todays world…I am not one that is opposed to the real thing; however I kept it clean for my Fall purchases and ordered the look for less!  There was so much fur for Fall that it was hard to choose which pieces to buy.  Here is my favorite that you will see here at MEADOW !  If you read my blog regularly…you already know this is my favorite….I think I have posted pictures of it two or three times since I found this treasure in their NY showroom!

Rebecca Taylor "Faux Fur Vest"

Worn with a simple tee and jeans….PERFECT!

On to your SOULS…..Clogs are the must have shoe for the season.  Pick a pair any pair and wear them with everything!  Here are two of my favorites with the perfect look paired with each!

CLOGS

The DVF Octavia is a clog/wedge combo…which was also done by See by Chloe…another favorite!

See by Chloe Slingback Wedge Clog

Don’t forget to add these staples to you wardrobe and you are sure to be a diva!

It’s all in the jeans…

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Coming in countless sizes, shapes, colors, and styles, denim is the ultimate staple for every fashionista’s closet. You can dress them up or down, wear them day and night, and rock them all year long.  Here at Meadow, we love our denim.  Here are some of our favorite brands and styles!!

JEGGINGS

Leggings aren’t just for yoga anymore. We recommend balancing the skinny fit with a loose flowy top (maybe TUCKER) or a simple tee with an Alice and Olivia blazer…then tie it all together with a great pair of wedges. Try AG’s “the Legging” in Super Skinny fit.

JEGGING

GREY DENIM

To add an unexpected edge to your outfit try a pair of grey jeans. Grey denim can be paired back with just about anything.  Let grey be your go to denim for Fall.  Our favorite is Genetic Denim’s “The Shane Cigarette” in Silver.

GENETIC - SHANE in silver

BOOTCUT

Every true Texas girl needs a good pair of boot cut jeans. Wear this style with turquoise jewelry, a statement belt, and your favorite pair of boots. Prvcy’s “Sonoma Bootcut Welt” is the perfect bootcut jean that can be dressed up or down day and night!

PRVCY

White Skinny jeans

White jeans have been this seasons biggest seller here at Meadow, and we know why! This popular style looks great either with color or monochromatic white. A pair of these jeans makes any outfit look crisp and fresh. We’re big fans of J Brand’s “Low Rise Skinny Leg” in Aspen White.

JBRAND

The Boyfriend

Steal this look from your mister.  Slouchy yet sophisticated, this trendy style has been worn by all the hottest celebs. AG Tomboy jeans are the perfect balance for the look we want to achieve.  If you buy them too slouchy…you could look sloppy, but the Tomboy is tailored in all the right places making this the perfect Boyfriend jean!

AG- TOMBOY

Mention this post next time you come in and receive 20% off one pair of jeans!  If you are an out-of-towner and see a style you have to have call us and we will ship them to you!

Currently we have JBrand, Genetic, AG, Bigstar, Anlo and PRVCY in stock!

Jet Set with Gypsy!

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Not traveling to an exotic country this summer? Neither am I, but I know how to fake it! Just in here at Meadow, eclectic jewelry by Gypsy will make you look like you stepped straight out of a Turkish bazaar. Why pay airfare when you can find global treasures right here at Meadow?

Unique and whimsical, each piece from the line is handcrafted using jewelry making techniques from the age of the Ottoman Empire. My personal favorite is the line’s oversized filigree cuff. Made out of brass that is plated with oxidized gold, this statement piece looks like it could have come from the jewel box of an Indian princess. A clasp studded with turquoise and coral completes this beautiful piece.

GYPSY CUFF

And why stop at your wrists? Gypsy’s gorgeous chandelier earrings are dripping with enough turquoise, coral, and pearl to make a Sultan jealous. They are must haves for all stylish globetrotters (and pretend globetrotters)!

GYPSY Chandelier Earrings and Ring

So while you’re wasting away in front of the A.C. this summer, put on a unique piece by Gypsy, burn some incense, and pretend that you’re far, far away.

Waddy’s World!

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

After working at Meadow for the past few months, it has been hard not to notice a trend in the flattering comments customers make about the store. Of course, they always begin with how much they love the merchandise. Then their compliments move to the store’s bright, open space.  And last but not least, they notice our fabulous print by local artist Waddy Armstrong.  Since this blog has given our clothing plenty of attention, I thought that I’d give fashion a break and discuss our big, beautiful Waddy masterpiece!

Our own Waddy Print! We love it!

Our own Waddy Print! We love it!

Situated between two vibrant clothing racks, the print perfectly echoes the hues found throughout the store. Dark blue branches and an explosion of vivid leaves are silhouetted against a stark white backdrop. The contrast between negative space and bold color makes the print really pop! It reminds me a lot of Meadow: modern lines and white walls contrast with a variety of colorful fabrics.

Many of Waddy’s pieces are full of color, but I find his monochromatic prints and paintings equally striking. One of my particular favorites is an untitled painting featuring the delicate white outline of leafy branch offset by a slate grey background. It makes me think of a negative photo. The organic subject matter is mirrored across the painting’s central axis to create a really interesting effect. I would love to own this one! In fact, I think that I’d like to own all of Waddy’s amazing pieces. Each one is just as beautiful as the next.

One of my all time favorites... so cool!

New York, New York!

Friday, February 26th, 2010

With Fashion Week behind us and having been to Coterie (The NY market that is held twice a year in the city)…. I must say that I LOVE NY!  My husband and I just returned from a buying trip to NY…..don’t worry I didn’t drag him around the market or showroom appointments with me!  Not only did I get to see what’s to come for Fall 2010, but I managed to have enough down time to enjoy the city with my husband.  There was a time in my life where the thought of being a New Yorker sounded exciting and glamourous (how many of you have felt like that at some point?), however I must say that at this stage in life it is perfect to visit every few months.  Our biggest challenge while we were there was deciding on restaurants!  We did manage to come across some fabulous finds for both fashion and dining.  Usually I have always dined at the staples that my family has been to since I was a little girl….this time we branched out.  We stayed downtown in Soho at a great hotel and walked around as if a pregnant girls feet don’t swell!  Here are a few places I would highly recommend if you ever make it to the city.

1.  PIPA

Pipa

This restaurant is part of ABC Carpet and Home….and it is incredible for both Lunch and Dinner.  We only had time to eat lunch here…it was so good we went back for seconds on Day 2!

2.  Market Table

WEST VILLAGE

market table

This quaint little restaurant is nestled on a corner in West Village.  The atmosphere, the food and the staff were perfect.  We will definitely go back!

Ok…back to fashion!  Here is a little preview from Rebecca Taylor for Fall 2010…….

fall 4fall 3

I love the texture, fur and animal prints!  I have never really been that big of an animal print person, but after seeing what’s to come for Fall, I have become a huge fan!  Not to worry…none of this is too heavy for Texas weather!  We will keep posting photos from Fall…so stay tuned!

See you soon!
