Agate Ranch + Marfa Jewelry
Wednesday, December 8th, 2010We are hosting a trunk show with jewelry designer Kathy Bracewell tomorrow at the store and could not be more excited! Kathy is the designer of Agate Ranch + Marfa. Her jewelry line consists of unique and rare Marfa agate stones and she incorporates one of a kind vintage milagros’, rosary seed beads, lava, mother of pearl & turquoise into each piece. She recently sent us a box of her necklaces and we immediately fell in love! They are different than many agate necklaces I have seen. She has left the natural beauty in the stones and each piece makes a bold statement!
Here’s a sneak peek….

Come by the store tomorrow to see her full collection of one of kind pieces! Kathy will be making an appearance between 4-7 pm! Come have a glass of wine, meet the designer, try on some rocks and get in the holiday spirit!
Hope to see you soon!

Olmos Park meets Santa Barbara….
Monday, November 1st, 2010Last Tuesday, The City of Olmos Park, held a Town Hall Meeting to present the Conceptual Vision Plan for our little neighborhood to the Residents and Merchants in the area. The collaboration of the THE VISION PLAN was prepared by local architect firm Michael G. Imber. They did a wonderful job presenting the plan and addressed many concerns and questions with local residents and merchants during the 2.5 hour meeting.
Here is a glimpse of what may be in store for our charming historical area!
Of course those of you who are familiar with the area will recognize “The Fountain” (and of course the building just behind it…MEADOW!!!). The development to the right side of the drawing will be new. Thethought is to make our building and the fountain somewhat of a town center in Olmos Park – creating a gathering place for the community. Imber did their homework…they collaborated with other small communities such as Santa Barbara and put together a great proposition that can be read in detail here.
Imber gave examples of how simple upgrades to signage, architecture, and landscape elements (benches, fountains, ground plantings and trees) could make our little neighborhood feel like one of the town villages we have always wanted to live in….but that would have entailed us moving somewhere else…. like California! If the Vision Plan becomes a reality we really may be able to live in one of the picturesque places that we once were only able to visit. Having grown up in the area I will say that I think the Vision Plan is long overdue and would bring so much class and even more charm than we already have to this area. I hope that they are able to start putting the Vision into Action before too long.
Here are a few more pictures that were given as examples to show what the Vision Plan is trying to achieve in terms of creating a downtown/small community feel to Olmos Park.
Wouldn’t it be fun to look out of the shop windows on a Saturday afternoon in April and see this in our new Olmos Park Town Center…..
As with most urban development there will be growing pains and this Vision will have plenty, but after last weeks meeting we are one step closer to an improved Olmos Park. There are many questions that still need to be answered before this happens, but I am excited that there is a vision.
Thank you to Olmos Park Economic Development Corporation and Michael G Imber Architects for working so hard to better our community. We look forward to being a part of the transormation for years to come!
If you love Olmos Park as much as we do…post a comment and let us know what you think about THE VISION PLAN!

New York Fashion Week Spring 2011
Friday, September 10th, 2010My FAVORITE semi-annual event is here again. Yep…it’s that time of year…New York Fashion Week has begun! Designers are turning heads with their Spring 2011 collections at Lincoln Center for the first time ever. As most divas know fashion week has been held at Bryant Park for the past 17 years. While critics and fans were sad to see the end of an era draw near at last seasons shows; the unveiling of the new location has created an even bigger buzz than ever before. This week 90 of the worlds most established and up and coming designers will be strutting their collections down the catwalks at Lincoln Center!

Sooo long Bryant Park....
I wish I was front and center at some of the shows. If Coterie wasn’t the following week… and I was able to be away from the store for two weeks…I would be there! Many of the designers we carry send out invites and I hate seeing them come in and having to graciously decline!
In 2004 my sister and I were invited to some of the shows for Fashion Week; Derek Lam, Behnaz Sarafpour, & Michael Kors . It was a spur of the moment trip; we decided two days before to buy our tickets and find the last decent hotel room in the city. I am so glad we went! While we were there we were in complete awe of everything around us…from the tents to the lights, the models and the stars…we were completely star struck… even by the coat checkers. You would have thought it was our first time in the city…when really we had grown up going there with our family. We arrived in NY and hooked up with our designer friends for a night out to some of the weeks festivities around town. The next few days were spent going from show to show and event to event. We saw everything from back stage drama to the glamorous presentations that these artists put on for their big days! However, the most memorable part of our trip was when my fashion flop (literally) of a sister gracefully took her first step onto the riser of the Bryant Park tents….she fell flat on her face making a grand entrance…basically breaking her wrist…at least it felt like she had! Here we are…two Texas girls pretending to be city girls in Bryant Park…one of us laying flat on our face in the middle of the crowd!!! Absolutely hysterical…a scene that should have been in “A Devil Wears Prada.” While our egos may have been slightly bruised (for about a minute)…we had the time of our lives. Sis…I must say, that was the most fun I have ever had on a trip and I wish we could do it all over again!
Here are some of the shots from Spring 2011 Fashion Week so far….many more days to come!
What trends will Spring 2011 bring? I will keep you posted!
If any of you have a good Fashion Week story or have been to a show let us know by posting a comment!
Happy Fashion Week!
